| Hotel Biskupský dům se nachází v centru Městské památkové rezervace Praha - v podhradí na Malé Straně, pouze 60 metrů od Karlova Mostu. Na obrázku výše vidíte budovu hotelu v pozadí s Mosteckou věží, která střeží Karlův most na levé straně řeky. V roce 1999 byla dokončena celková rekonstrukce hotelu. Podoba domu zvaného dnes Biskupský dům pochází z roku 1843 kdy byla po šesti letech dokončena přestavba budovy z 16. století stojící na místě původního biskupského dvorce. V dávné době románské na konci 12.století mocný biskup kníže Jindřich Břetislav nechal zbudovat na levém břehu Vltavy rozsáhlý dvorec jako sídlo biskupské. Jeho následovníci biskupové a arcibiskupové jako např. Jan z Dražic (odtud název Dražického náměstí, kde se hotel nachází) dvorec ještě rozšířili a přestavěli. Rozsáhlá obnova, jak píše kronikář Kosmas, byla vynucena požárem již v roce 1249, kdy zapálili sídlo vzbouřenci proti králi Václavovi I. Konečnou pohromou sídla arcibiskupského bylo v roce 1419 jeho vydrancování a vypálení. Tím dvorec zanikl a poskytl zbytky svých zdí pro výstavbu domů pražským měšťanům. |
